Silk Painting

With modern dyes and paints and a variety of different silk fibres the design and possibilities are limitless. Silk painting can be used to create soft furnishings for the home, wall hangings (and batik), cards, jewellery and other personal effects.

In our workshops you will use a medium-weight Habotai silk, Pébéo Setasilk, Deka, (and other iron-fixed silk paints), clear water solvent gutta and in some paintings diffusers as a resist to spreading colours. This works particularly well when creating a landscape painting on silk for example. Silk painting allows you to work lightly with the brushes and colours and the results are freer flowing and fluid.

Workshops will include a slide show of artists work, a demonstration and the opportunity to explore and gain knowledge of the materials available.
With 15 years of expertise in this field Pelham arts can promise that the tutor will give an enriching experience to the wonders of working on silk.
